What is IV Sedation?

IV sedation is administered through a small IV line, usually in your arm or hand. The dentist or anesthetist can carefully adjust the medication levels so you are always relaxed throughout your treatment.

You will experience extreme calmness and a sense of peace during the procedure, and many patients have little or no recollection of the treatment afterwards. You will be responsive enough to respond to any verbal cues the dentist gives, but you are not aware enough to experience any anxiety or discomfort.

As effects can last a few hours, we ask that you have a designated driver ready to drive you home from your appointment.

You will experience a light, calm and drowsy feeling after IV sedation. You will be conscious during your treatment to respond to cues from the dentist, but you will be free from any anxiety or worry.

No, you will need to have somebody ready to pick you up from your appointment as you cannot drive after IV sedation for 24 hours.

This is taken through an IV drip and soon after you start inhaling, the effects will kick in.
